The Community Outreach Center is located between Gottschalks Department Store and the Food Court. The Center is open Monday thru Saturday and has a service counter where police reports can be made and copies of Crime reports and City publications obtained. Uniform staff utilize the facility as a police annex to investigate crimes committed at the Mall, write reports, and conduct community meetings with citizen groups, merchants and students.
The Police Department Outreach Center is home to its Commercial Security Unit, Merchant Alert Program and Home Alert Program. Sworn and civilian staff, along with volunteers, an provides provide citizens and merchants alike with various services. The following are some of the services offered at the Community Outreach Center: Fax Alert Program, Merchant Alert Program, Security Inspections, Loss Prevention Training, Self Defense Classes, Office Security, Shoplifting Prevention, Robbery Prevention, Emergency Preparedness, Drugs in the Workplace and False Alarm Abatement.
The Outreach Center has a television and computer with access the City Channel and Web site for City Services. Staff and Volunteers from the Police Department, other City Departments and members of the City Council will utilize the Center for community meetings, planning sessions and workshops.
Much of the construction and many of the supplies for the Outreach Center was generously donated by contractors and buildings supply firms located in Capitola and Santa Cruz County.
