 | CAPITOLA POLICE RESERVE PROGRAM
The purpose of the Capitola Police Reserve Unit shall be to cooperate with, assist, and augment the Police Department of the City of Capitola.
Under the orders and direction of the Chief of Police, the Reserve Unit members shall render police service upon occasions, when such augmentation to the regular department is essential to the public welfare and safety.
Reserve Unit members shall also assist in the enforcement of the law and order during any and all emergencies declared to exist within the City of Capitola by the Chief of Police.
Reserve Officers must meet and comply with all of the applicable provisions of the Penal Code, Section 830.6 and possess certification pursuant to the provisions established by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, POST.
The Capitola Police Department adopted a Paid Reserve program, as well as an Annuitant Officer classification with salary. The Pay Scale for Level I Paid Reserve Officer ranges from $18.32 per hour to top step at $23.34 per hour. Level II Paid Reserve Officer ranges from $14.64 to $18.76 per hour. The following are the Pay Scales for the Paid Reserve Officer Poisitions:

Annuitant Officers are those who are honorably retired California POST accredited officers, or California POST accredited Officers who wish to have a break in service as a Level I reserve with the opportunity to return to full-time status in the future. An Annuitant Officer’s salary will be based on experience and training to be determined by the Chief of Police. Generally, annuitant Officers will be paid up to Step F of the Police Officer salary range, currently at $29.23 per hour.
The Police Department provides uniforms and equipment for Reserve and Annuitant Officers. The Police Department has used the San Jose model of the Field Training Program since 1974, which Reserve and Annuitant Officers must complete before operating as solo beat officers.
This program is essential to insure adequate staffing, officer safety and public safety throughout the City during the busy summer months and Special Events, which occur year round in Capitola.
